Character Analysis in Wilde (1997):

Oscar Wilde

Wilde was a phenomenal playwright, poet, and person who unconditionally followed his heart. Despite the fact that he owned a successful writing career and a loving family, he indulged himself in relationships with Robbie and Bosie after he discovered his obsessive affection toward boys. After he met Bosie, he spoiled this young man with caring and love but also snubbed his writing works. Though Robbie reminded Wilde that when Bosie was not around he could finish much more marvelous works, he kept going back to Bosie. After Bosie's father's legal accuse, his sexuality was exposed; still, he chose to accept the sentence rather than flee. At the end of the film, he eventually chose to meet Bosie again given his wife’s objection. In spite of all, Wilde’s life seemed astonishing and peculiar, but I guess it is safe to say that it was the tender and affectionate soul of Wilde's in which the delicate pieces of writing echoed.
